Friday, July 31. 2009WELCOME TO LANDER CYCLING![]() WELCOME! We are a club committed to supporting bicycling in the Lander valley - of all kinds. Please join us for one of our weekly events: Tuesday - Mountain Bike ride - meet at ALCO parking lot at 5:30pm (not sure this has really started yet this year) Wednesday - No Rider Left Behind - meet at City Park at 5:45pm Thursday - Time Trial - warm up and meet at City Park before 6:00pm (hope to resume on 7/1/10) None of these seem to be occuring anymore (as of 7/19/10)- most fell apart after the flood... if there's any volunteers that want to start them up again- holler. Many of us ride every day if you're looking for folks to ride with, or know of group rides, email me at mandandshad@hotmail.com and we'll get the word out. Bike Club Meetings- Once a month, every third Wednesday- Cowfish or Summit- 7pm JOIN US: Membership is $15 for individual and $25 for family BIKE CLUB MEETING Second Tuesday of Every Month- 7pm- alternating between The Summit and The Cowfish August 10th, 2010 is at the Summit Current News: 8 members were in attendance for our July meeting. The rest of the hundred or so, were riding somewhere (we assume). Anyhoo- some great ideas and discussion were shared about getting a local ride/ guidebook put together. Talk about setting up a MapMyRide.com account for the club and maybe getting a club GPS. The FART (Fremont Area Road Tour) got off the ground as planned on 6/12/10, despite the monsoon and flooding. 54 out of a 100 plus registered riders braved the conditions and went for a cold swim. Even a couple of the loonier ones got in 100 miles. If you chickened out- but would still like your awesome T-shirt, stop by Gannett Peak Sports to claim it. Leftovers will be sold and/or given to sponsors. Proceeds from the FART are going to local charitable organizations to help with the flood stuff. A super thanks goes out to Cade and Mike for stepping up and putting all of this together- they really pulled it off! They've both volunteered to lead the charge for next year as well. Awesome, can't wait to see what the second FART smells like. If anybody has any pictures they'd like to share of the FART, feel free to email them to me, Shad Hamilton- mandyandshad@hotmail.com, and I'll get them posted on our website. Although the cows are out, there is still some great riding at The Bus. Here's a video I took while riding out there a month or so ago... The Shoshone Lake Switchbacks and road is open now- more good MTB potential there. Check ou this ride: The Sinks Canyon MTB trails are all good now too: ![]() The Switchbacks are open! Open to cars now too. As of 7/19/10 though- they are getting rock chipped. Might give it a week or so for the rock chip to get pounded in before taking your fancy road bike up it. The Switchback section of the Loop Road all the to the Worthen Meadows Junction is paved now. It's an awesome road ride- check it out before it snows... Lander Hill Climb -- 16 miles and 3000 vertical feet+ of climbing! *My best attempt bottom (intersection of 9th/ Fremont) to top (high point - next to where snow machine trail leaves the road- past Fossil Hill) was 1hr 6min 45sec- 1hr 13min 35sec to the end of pavement, on 7/27/10. Our club is not that old, but these folks and local businesses have been supportive and have already helped us out quite a bit...
** Gannett Peak Sports ** The Inn at Lander and Summit Restaurant and The Peaks Conference Center ** Cowfish and Lander Bar If you or a business you know is interested in supporting our local cyclists and the Lander Cycling Club, or if you have been and I just didn't know it, let us know ASAP and we'll get your shingle posted on our website. Hat's off and a big "THANKYOU!" to all of our sponsors! Local RidesThe Tour De Lander website has some excellent route descriptions and profiles of some classic local road rides. Click on "route samples" to view them, after you're on their website: Tour De Lander Route Profiles Fairfield Hill is a good area for hiking mountain biking. Above is a good loop on it that I ride every once in a while. A classic Lander Road Ride. Once the road to Shoshone Lake is open (usually late June) this is a fun loop to mountain bike on. It's a 33 mile lolly pop and it usually takes me about 4 hrs round trip- from Lander. Just up the road from Lander about 50 miles, there's some great mountain biking too. This is a loop we did up in that country a couple of years ago. We started in the East Fork, went up over Spring Mountain and down into the Horse Creek drainage. We returned to the East Fork via the badlands behind Dubois. A great little loop to ride up the East Fork. If you have permission to ride on the Homestead Park Road, you can actually ride almost all the way to the top of Fairfield hill. If you're looking to rack up the vert... it's a good one! You need permission though. Don't poach! The "Bus" an area of BLM land along the Squaw/ Baldwin road offers some excellent mountain biking too. Hope to have some route info posted about that area soon. It's probably the closest and earliest MTB riding. It also sounds like our club will be partnering with BLM folks to do some work on this area. It seems interest is high in creating and preserving recreational opportunities for people in this area. Other classic MTB riding areas around Lander include: Beaver Creek X-Country Ski Area on South Pass, Sinks Canyon (Loop Road/ Snowmachine Trail) and single track all round NF campground, Government Draw- off the Lyon's Valley Road, and Johnny Behind the Rocks (more BLM about 15 miles out of Lander towards Jeffery City). There lots more too. If anyone has any trip reports, route descriptions, maps or info about riding in any of these areas that you would like to share with folks... email me and I'll get it posted. Happy Trails! Thursday, July 30. 2009Awesome Race/ Ride/ Tours

Lander Cycling Thursday Night Time Trial Description:
Thursday Night Time Trials are back on! The first one was 5/27/10 This is purely for fun so don't be shy come out and ride with us. This is an informal event that we would like to encourage folks to participate in. The course is from City park to Sawmill Campground. The distance is 6 miles with approximately 700 feet of climbing at about a 2% grade average. The idea is to ride it as fast as you can. We will keep time all you need to do is ride. The road is open to traffic but the shoulder is nice and wide. Riders are responsible for themselves so you all need to be careful out there. This is purely for fun. Volunteers keep track of the times and results will be posted periodically on our website. If you participate and don't want you results posted, be sure to tell that to the timers at the Time Trial. The first rider will go off at 6:00pm and the subsequent riders will go off at 1 minute intervals after that. Warm up at your leisure before 6:00pm and be at City Park a little before 6:00pm so we can get a start order together.
